Frankfurt Datacenter OUTAGE - DE2000 (One Shared/Reseller Hosting Server in Frankfurt)

We are aware that DE2000 (One Shared/Reseller Hosting Server in Frankfurt) is currently experiencing connectivity issues. This issue is unrelated to the previous incident.

We are currently looking into this node further and will provide additional updates on this matter once we have more information.

UPDATE: We are still monitoring this server closely in order to ensure stability. Services should be operating normally at this time.

UPDATE: We have implemented some enhanced firewall and web server level rules to help prevent unwanted traffic and attacks towards this server. This is a temporary measure to ensure this server fully stabilizes. During this time, you may experience false positives in your uptime monitors (if you are using any), though rest assured, your website is actually up and loading fine.

UPDATE: Services continue to be stable and websites are loading without any issues. Firewall sensitivity has been significantly reduced as of now to ensure most real world use cases are not negatively impacted. For now, only some external uptime monitoring services (for example Pingdom, UptimeRobot, etc) may be blocked due to excessive connections from ping probe IPs, which may create false positives in monitoring. That will be fixed too in the coming day or two once we further reduce the firewall sensitivity some more.

Frankfurt Datacenter RCA: DE2000 Server (one shared/reseller hosting server in Frankfurt, Germany)

This is an RCA (root cause analysis) to the DE2000 server (one shared/reseller hosting server in Germany). This matter was already fully resolved earlier today, this message serves as a RCA follow-up. The issue investigated is primarily related to the accumulation of temporary files in the /tmp directory. This situation affected the performance and availability of websites that frequently interact with MySQL databases.

Despite the server remaining operational throughout the incident, there was indeed intermittent connectivity issues experienced earlier today for database-interactive websites hosted on DE2000. The primary effect of the excessive temporary files was on websites that heavily rely on database interactions. The built-up temporary files saturated the /tmp directory, thereby causing erratic website performance, marked by periods of intermittent availability.

We have successfully implemented a range of proactive measures and safeguards designed to prevent such situations from arising in the future. These strategies are not solely specific to the DE2000 server, but have been implemented across our entire shared hosting platform to avoid such a situation from occurring again in the future. Our Engineering team is also exploring additional improvements to our alert systems to detect and address such issues before they become a problem.

In conclusion, the recent incident earlier today involving the DE2000 server was caused by an accumulation of temporary files in the /tmp directory. While the server itself did not experience any downtime, it caused intermittent connectivity issues for websites that frequently interact with databases. However, we have taken corrective and preventive actions to ensure such scenarios do not recur across our shared hosting platform.
